Microchipping your pet is a simple medical procedure and should be performed by a Vet or Veterinary Nurse only. The microchip is injected under the skin using an implanter. It is no more painful than a typical injection, although the needle is slightly larger than those used for injection. No surgery or anaesthesia is required. A microchip can be implanted during a routine veterinary consultation.
The BackHome Super Mini Microchip is an even smaller transponder and smaller needle resulting in less pain. The Transponders are made in Germany and are ISO 11784 and ISO 11785 compliant. Manufactured according to EU standards. The Super Mini Transponder chips start with the number 992.
The BackHome microchip is NOT an animal tracking device but a permanent form of identification. The BackHome microchip contains a serial number unique to your pet. This microchip serial number is stored on the BackHome Pet Owner database. A handheld scanner is used by Vets and Welfare Organisations to scan and read the chip and displays the microchip serial number. The Vets and Welfare Organisations search for the microchip on the BackHome Database in order to find the pet owners details. The pet owner is then contacted to collect their pet. All pet owner details are stored on the BackHome database behind a safe and secure log in interface. The BackHome database complies with the latest POPI regulations.
CLICK HERE TO FIND A VETAs it is important to microchip your pet, it is just as important to keep your personal contact details up to date on the database. If you move house or change your phone number or email address you need to update your personal details, so you will still be contactable in the event of your pet becoming lost/straying.
Please follow these steps if your pet is lost and has a BackHome microchip.
Should you be emigrating to another country and taking your pets with you, here are some pointers to assist you with the immigration process. This is a complex procedure and it is recommended that you consult with a Pet Transportation company that is a member of IPATA (International Pet and Animal Transportation Association).
Our BackHome microchips are ISO 11784 and ISO 11785 compliant and can be read by scanners worldwide. We highly recommend that you register your pet on the local pet microchip database, and update your details with the local vet in your new country of residence, as we are not linked to the International Database. This is where people will search should they want to look for contact details on a missing pet.
